A New Formal Qualification To Assist Your Project Management Job Search

Project management

The Association for Project Management (APM), the chartered body for the project management profession, has announced its Project Management Qualification (PMQ – formerly known as APMP) will now feature as part of the framework for the Level 8 Project Management Apprenticeship in Scotland.

This change means that prospective project management professionals no longer have to balance studying for an additional qualification to possess a recognised professional project management qualification, with searching for their first project management job.

The creation of the Level 8 Project Management Apprenticeship was prompted by employers, and after a nationwide consultation period, the APM’s Project Management Qualification was included at the request of employers.

With the apprenticeship scheme itself still relatively new, it is now a case of waiting to see how these newly qualified project professionals progress with their project management jobs and careers, and then establishing whether the introduction of the APM’s Project Management Qualification made a significant difference, the results of which will impact a similar introduction to project management apprenticeships across the rest of the UK.

Gill Hancock, Head of Qualifications and Standards Development at APM said,

“We’re proud to see our Management Qualification as the only named professional qualification on this apprenticeship. It means that apprentices in Scotland will have the advantage of gaining a professional qualification, recognised and valued by employers, and on course to become successful project managers of the future.”
