2018 marked the 70th anniversary of the National Health Service (NHS). At the time of its establishment in 1948, the NHS was regarded as a remarkable experiment in healthcare. Since then, lives in the UK have been transformed by healthcare free at the point of use with the NHS now cemented as a global symbol of universal healthcare. Despite these remarkable achievements the NHS today is in crisis, stretched more than ever before, in the context of an ageing population and an unprecedented staffing crisis. With more than 87,000 vacant posts services are reaching critically low staffing levels. This is directly responsible for a locum bill for temporary staff in excess of £3 billion a year. An increasing transient workforce comes with the added challenges of helping develop individuals in short time periods, acquainting staff with local hospital policies and with short term staff being unfamiliar with the team dynamics.
Rather than simply filling rota gaps with locums or shifting nurses between Trusts, our solution is to source world-class Doctors and Nurses from countries like India, Philippines and across Europe to disrupt the negative cycle of increasing reliance on temporary staff and building a long-term solution for future generations. Dr Andrew Harborne – Director VIQU Medical
Although having practised as a Doctor for several years, Doctor Andrew has been a hands-on Recruitment Director, specialising in the medical sector for the last 12 months, both in the UK and abroad.
Doctor Andrew graduated from Keele University Medical School with MBChB and an MSc in Neuroscience. After completing an academic foundation programme in Yorkshire, he worked in Cardiology before joining the VIQU Group to form VIQU Medical. Through his years as a clinician and more recently medical recruitment Doctor Andrew has developed a global network of healthcare practitioners. His experience of all things NHS has given him an intrinsic understanding of the UK healthcare, the types of individuals required in recruitment campaigns and depth of experience no medical recruiter can beat.
